چکیده

Abstract Extreme rainfall events leading to severe hydrological impacts warrant an accurate prediction of such not only on time but also in magnitude. Sri Lanka is a South Asian country that frequently affected by tropical storms. The primary aim this study was improve heavy forecast during the North-East monsoon over Badulu Oya catchment, Lanka. This accomplished simulating precipitation for two extreme using Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF-ARW) model. A detailed comparison made between 24-h spatial distribution model observations obtained from gauges. Verification evaluated based three deterministic approaches. Each event simulated multiple times 15 different parameterization scheme combinations including six microphysics four cumulus schemes at 3 km grid resolution. filtered best were validated another events. key finding these evaluations configurations with WSM5, WSM6, Kessler WDM6 microphysics, KF, BMJ MKF displayed overall performances. Therefore, have good potential operational use numerical weather said catchment.

Simulation of heavy rainfall events over Indian monsoon region using WRF-3DVAR data assimilation system

We present the results of the impact of the 3D variational data assimilation (3DVAR) system within the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model to simulate three heavy rainfall events (25–28 June 2005, 29–31 July 2004, and 7–9 August 2002) over the Indian monsoon region. For each event, two numerical experiments were performed. In the first experiment, namely the control simulation (CNTL), ...

Multidecadal Evaluation of WRF Downscaling Capabilities over Western Australia in Simulating Rainfall and Temperature Extremes

The authors evaluate a 30-yr (1981–2010) Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) Model regional climate simulation over the southwest of Western Australia (SWWA), a region with a Mediterranean climate, using ERA-Interim boundary conditions. The analysis assesses the spatial and temporal characteristics of climate extremes, using a selection of climate indices, with an emphasis on metrics that are r...

Evidence for trends in heavy rainfall events over the UK.

Daily precipitation in the UK has changed over the period 1961-2000, becoming on average more intense in winter and less intense in summer. Recent increases in total winter precipitation are shown to be mainly due to an increase in the amount of precipitation on wet days, with a smaller contribution in the western UK from a trend towards more wet days. If the wet-day amounts are modelled using ...

The Strengthening Relationship between ENSO and Northeast Monsoon Rainfall over Sri Lanka and Southern India

Recently, it was reported that the relationship of the Indian southwest monsoon rainfall with El Niño– Southern Oscillation (ENSO) has weakened since around 1980. Here, it is reported that in contrast, the relationship between ENSO and the northeast monsoon (NEM) in south peninsular India and Sri Lanka from October to December has not weakened. The mean circulation associated with ENSO over thi...

Evaluation of the WRF PBL parameterizations for marine boundary layer clouds: Cumulus and stratocumulus

1 The performance of five boundary layer parameterizations in the Weather 2 Research and Forecasting model is examined for marine boundary layer cloud regions 3 using a single column model version of the WRF model. Most parameterizations show a 4 poor agreement of the vertical boundary layer structure when compared with Large-Eddy 5 Simulation models. These comparisons against Large-Eddy Simula...
